The whole family can train together |
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Initially, you should train at least once to twice a week and as you progress through the grades you will need to train more often. Bear in mind that you can do a lot of training in your own time with the classes providing an opportunity to check your techniques and learn new ones. back to top WILL I HAVE TO FIGHT?
You will not be involved in sparring until you reach the grade of Green Belt, which takes about 1 1/2 to 2 years. By then you will be proficient in your techniques and the introduction of sparring will seem like a natural extension of your training. Shingen Karate is what is referred to as a full-contact style which means when we spar or practice fight we do make contact. However, there are a range of degrees of contact and you will be taken through a full range of these before you are involved in full contact. Sparring is nothing to fear, it is the natural opportunity to test your techniques in a safe, supportive environment amongst friends. back to top WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? During your first introductory sessions, a t-shirt and shorts or track pants is suitable. When you sign up you will be able to buy a new uniform (called a Gi) to make you feel truly part of the club. back to top WHO WILL I BE TRAINING UNDER?
